Black Ops 6: Zombies: a Guide To Shattered Veil’s Easter Egg

Included in the Season three update for Black Ops 6 was a new zombies map, and with a new zombies map comes a new main easter egg. The maps so far have been getting released in order of the story, so Shattered Veil builds on the part of the story that has already been told. This means that Shattered Veil’s main quest is chronologically at the end of the story so far. For players seeking to experience the full story from the start, it is recommended to play the other maps first in the order that they are presented (Liberty Falls, Terminus, Citadelle des Morts, the Tomb).

For Those Completely New To Zombies Or To COD In General:

The Zombies mode in Call of Duty is a nice break from the constant competition in the Multiplayer modes. As is probably obvious from the name of the mode, players will not be fighting other players, but will instead be trying to survive rounds (waves) of zombies. Every round, more zombies spawn, getting stronger and dealing more damage over time, so the player must upgrade the weapons that they use. This is done by spending essence at a Pack-a-Punch machine, of which there is one on each map, or by spending salvage at an arsenal. Essence and salvage are both resources that are given to the player for killing zombies. For essence, there is a specific amount given based on what the player does and it is awarded instantly (for example, a critical kill awards 115 essence, while a regular kill only gives 90), but salvage is randomly dropped by zombies at death and must be picked up by the player.

Essence can also be spent at Perk-a-Cola machines to buy different enhancements to the player, such as Juggernog, which gives the player more health, or Melee Macchiato, which increases the power of melee attacks. These machines can also award you with essence if you go prone (lay down) in front of them, which is a mechanic known as “Loose Change” and can only be done once per match.

Easter eggs in Zombies are seen on each map, some being main quest easter eggs that reveal parts of the lore that a map has to give or just being a minor way to get a free perk or a free weapon upgrade. These easter eggs have become treasured by the community, with it pretty much becoming tradition to search for easter eggs on every new map that is released. In Black Ops 6, a “Directed” mode has been added, which guides the player through main quest easter eggs.

Key Things To Note Before Starting

This easter egg is one of the more complex ones in the game, so it is recommended that players read this guide at least once before starting. When selecting a loadout, the most effective type of gun for this easter egg would be an Assault Rifle, and one with a low amount of recoil will be easier to use. For the field upgrade, Aether Shroud is actually necessary for the easter egg and will also generally be useful for sticky situations, as it causes zombies to temporarily not be able to see where the player is. For Lethals, either an explosive (like a Semtex) or a combat axe will be useful, but both are craft-able in the match.

This guide will utilize screenshots of the Mini-map to show the locations of different items, so the steps will not make sense if the reader does not have any map awareness. It is also important to note that this easter egg has a multitude of steps where items spawn in random locations, but to combat that, saving and quitting and then entering back into the match changes the location of any items. Here is a shortened list of the steps for readers to be able to skip the parts they already know:

  • Access the pack-a-punch machine

  • Get the free Raygun MKII from the armory

  • Set up access to all variants of the Raygun MKII

  • Complete the trials for all three of the variants

  • Enter and complete the Z-rex boss fight

Accessing the Pack-a-Punch Machine

This step is not unique to the easter egg, as it will need to be completed in order to progress through the map anyway and to enhance weapons. The game will put little emblems of a bright orange diamond with a black star in the middle to guide players to the steps to accessing the Pack-a-Punch machine, but this is the only part of the easter egg for which the game will do so.

First, follow the stars to the entrance of the building, picking up the loose change from perk machines on the way. Once in the main lobby, go to the door to the right of the dinosaur, past which there will be a Stamin-up machine. After picking up the loose change from the Stamin-up, you may notice a diagonal wall with a ladder. Climb the ladder and kill the zombie (consult with the first image above). It will drop the fuse, the first part necessary to access the mainframe, which is where the Pack-a-Punch will be found. For the second part, you will have to shoot a computer (the spot being aimed at in image 2) and it will drop a circuit board.

With both of these parts, you will be able to access the elevator to the mainframe chamber, but first, it needs to be repaired. Wait for the round to end and then hold the interact button on the back side of the elevator. Once the elevator is repaired, call it floor and be prepared to fight multiple zombies that will fall out of the elevator cab. Once the zombies are defeated, call the elevator again and you will be granted access to the mainframe chamber.

How To Acquire The Raygun MKII For Free

On round ten, a purple-eyed zombie named the “Lab Technician” will spawn in the mainframe chamber and will drop a Floppy Disk item when killed. With the Floppy Disk acquired, make your way over to the library, which is the tall, yet thin room near the Stamin-up machine. you will see a computer next to a fax machine, so interact with it.

After a minute or so, the fax machine will finish printing a paper that says a message and includes a capitalized four-letter word (ex: MOTH, WORM, YETI, CRAB). With this word in mind, go to the nursery near the PHD Flopper machine, where there will be a chalkboard with randomized clumps of letters, which need to be translated into numbers. For each letter, count the amount of letters in its clump and remember the four-digit number that it will result in.

In the example to the right, the word was WORM, so here is how I deciphered the message with the board: the W is in a clump of eight letters, the O is in a clump of 5 letters, the R is in a clump of eight letters, and the M is in a clump of eight letters, so the code would be 8588.

With this code, go back to the mainframe chamber and buy the door on the opposite side from the entrance. You will now be presented with a door and a keypad, the latter of which is what should be interacted with. Type in the code and the door should open, with the elite-tier Doppelghast that was inside of the door being set free. Once killed, it will drop a severed arm, which you will then want to bring to the armory, where there will be a Raygun mark II behind a glass window. After interacting with the keypad next to it, you will be able to access the free Raygun MKII.

Setting Up Access To All Three Variants of the Raygun Mark II

With the Raygun Mark II acquired, we will now need to set up three crafting benches to be able to craft its alternate variants. For each variant, we need to acquire an empty canister, then activate it by placing it into yellow boxes and going through their respective trials. Once activated, each canister has a specific bench that it must be taken to, where you will be able to turn your Raygun MKII into the desired variant.

The first canister can be obtained by shooting the blue crystals on ceilings or rooftops around the map with the Raygun Mark II. The crystals are in the following locations: on the ceiling in the construction area near the armory, on the ceiling in the library, on the rooftop next to the east foyer, and in the conservatory. We’ll use this one to craft the blue, Submachine-gun-like variant, so take the canister to the yellow box opposite the Speed-Cola machine. This will spawn an Abomination, which we will not kill, but instead use its beam attacks to charge three small rocks around the arena. After the rocks get charged, we want the Abomination to charge into them and make them float. Once all of them are floating, the abomination will de-spawn, but there will be a small purple portal in the center, and vermin will continuously spawn with the aim of getting into the portal. Keep them out until the time is up, and pick up the canister from the yellow box. Take it to the crafting bench next to the armory and interact with it, and that is the first of the three variants.

The second canister can be found by throwing an LT53 Kazimir just outside of the zombie spawning hole behind the Double Tap machine. This one will be used to acquire the shotgun-like purple variant. We’ll need two reflectors and an essence bomb for the trial. The reflectors are in two fountains, one being next to the quick revive, and the other being on the outside of the wall that has the PHD Flopper machine. The essence bomb can be dropped from white boxes that have the word “JANUS” on them. The locations of the boxes and which one drops the essence bomb are both randomized, so that may be obnoxious.

With both of these, go to the crumbled wall left of the armor vest in the service tunnels and interact with it to plant the bomb. Once inside of the room that opened up, place your canister inside of the yellow box. There will now be a crystal with a beam going from it to a small pedestal. Put a reflector on the pedestal and put your other reflector in the place where the beam ends. The laser should now be pointing at a Doppelghast statue. Melee the center crystal to turn the statue into an actual Doppelghast, kill it, then melee the first reflector until it points to a hole in the wall and pick the second reflector up. Take it to the cave that the laser is pointing towards, place it, and melee it. It should now be pointing at another Doppelghast statue, so melee the center crystal and kill the Doppelghast that spawns. For the last statue, melee the second reflector and melee the crystal, but keep in mind that this last one has extra health when you fight it. After it dies, pick up the canister and take it to the crafting bench in the room where you acquired the circuit board, where you will now be able to craft the purple variant of the Raygun MkII.

The method for obtaining the last canister will require that you have combat axes equipped. Go to the mainframe chamber and look for a glass chamber that has a letter (either A or B) to the left of it, then go to the place where the elite Doppelghast was being kept. If you turn left, you will see a burst valve that connects to two valves labeled “A” and “B”. Use your combat axes to burst the one that is labeled with the same letter that was next to the glass chamber, and then go back to the glass chamber and use an explosive lethal, which will break the glass and let you access the canister inside.

For the next step, we need four plant seeds. Around the map, there are small, spherical, orange plants, which will need to be blown up, as that is what makes them drop their seeds. With four of these seeds, go to the greenhouse near the conservatory and place the canister in the yellow box. There are planters around the greenhouse and the conservatory, so plant a seed in one and defend it until the plant is fully grown. If you fail, the seed will just drop out so you can try again. Repeat this with the rest of the planters and pick up the canister, which should have a yellow mist inside, and bring it to the crafting bench in the spawn area. This lets you access the yellow, marksman rifle-like variant of the Raygun Mark 2, so now it is time to move on to the rituals.

The Raygun MK II Rituals

For the first ritual, we’ll need to switch back to the blue variant, so go to the crafting bench opposite the armory. Then, go to the banquet hall, where there will be a box with a lamp inside; pick it up to obtain the sconce and head to the juggernog machine, to the right of which there will be a lamp. There will also be a hole in the wall, so place the lamp there. In between the two lamps is a secret door, which will be unlocked by completing the “simon says” style puzzle with the two lamps. First, one lamp will light up, so interact with it. Then, it will light up again but another one (or the same one) will light up after it, so just copy the combinations until the door opens.

Once inside the room, you should interact with the terminal next to the painting and kill zombies with your blue Raygun Mark 2 until the painting turns into a portal. Head back to the study, and search the room for a small bell, and you will have to break some glass to find it. Now, you will need to have the brain rot ammo mod equipped on your weapon, so go to the arsenal machine and equip it. Go to the bar in the corner right above the arsenal machine and place the bell on the counter, then shoot zombies until one is affected by your brain rot ammo mod. Once this happens, interact with the bell to ring it, the brain rotted zombie should climb over and give you a flask, then head back to the blue portal. Enter it and place the flask on the circular pedestal to start a ritual. This will spawn a special zombie that will have a shield, which can only be broken by the blue Raygun MK II variant, so break the shield, switch to your main gun, deal some damage, then when the shield forms again, repeat the process. Once the boss is defeated, pick the item off of the circular pedestal.

For the purple Raygun Mark II ritual, first pick up your purple variant from the crafting bench in the bedroom and head to the room with the elevator, in which there will be a terminal next to a painting. Interact with it, kill the zombies that spawn with your Raygun MK II to open the portal, and enter the portal. There will be a red bottle on the table inside, so pick it up. You will need to fill cups around the map with it. Each cup filled will spawn an elder disciple, which you will need to kill. Once you do this three times, you can move on to the next step. These cups are located in the bottlery, the grand foyer, and the spawn area. To move on to the next step, head to the room with the elevator, where there will be three two-digit numbers. Memorize them from left to right and head to the safe next to the Death Perception machine. Interact with it and type in the numbers to open the safe and pick up the artifact inside.

Like with the blue variant’s ritual, take the artifact to the purple portal and place it on the circular pedestal, which will spawn a boss. This boss will have a shield that can only be broken by the purple variant. Fight it the same way you did with the blue variant’s boss and pick up the artifact.

The last ritual is with the yellow variant, so pick it up from the spawn area craft bench. Head to the painting in the room where you acquired the fuse, then interact with the terminal and kill zombies with the yellow Raygun MK II to open the yellow portal. Make sure you have Aether Shroud charged up for the next step, because you will need it to pick up items.

The first item you need is a Nuclear Plant ID Badge, which will be found in a fireplace, but only while your Aether Shroud is active. There are three around the map, so try to go to each one as fast as possible until you find it so that you don't run out of Aether Shroud. The second item can be found either on the couch in front of the yellow portal or on the table next to the bar. The last item can be found on the desk in the study or on the desk in the east foyer.

With these three items head back to the room where the yellow portal is, where there should now be three bright books with symbols on the back. Interact with them in this order: the one that looks like a sideways 6, the one with an O split in half, and the one with three circles. A wall should now open up a small room with the final artifact. Take this into the yellow portal, put it on the pedestal, etc. you should understand how this works by now. With all three charged artifacts, it is now time for the final boss fight.

The Z-rex

Before fighting the Z-rex, it is recommended that you have your main weapon and your Raygun MK II at Pack-a-Punch level three. You should use the blue variant, as it is the easiest to use and the most powerful. You should also have a Self-Revive kit and a chopper gunner in case you get cornered (chopper gunners make zombies stop attacking you). Once you are ready to fight, talk to SAM in the mainframe chamber. This should trigger a cutscene and you should then be in the arena with the Z-rex. Use your Raygun MK II as much as possible, and aim at the Z-rex’s eyes to do extra damage. The Z-rex can sometimes swallow a toxic zombie, and when it does this, shoot its stomach to deal extra damage. Every time a fourth of its health is lost, it will jump out of the arena and send zombies towards you. Once you defeat the Z-rex, you will have completed the Easter egg.
