The US Should Not Get Involved in Iran

As of February 28, 2026, the U.S. launched airstrikes against Iran. They targeted military, government, and nuclear sites. This was called Operation Epic Fury, and the purpose of it was to ensure that “Iran shouldn’t have nuclear weapons”. This resulted in thousands of people being killed, including Iranian citizens. The U.S. involvement in Iran was a mistake and unjustified for several reasons. The following strong arguments show that the U.S. should not be attacking Iran, even though there may be reasons for the war. 

Casualties of War

As part of war, both soldiers and civilians are expected to lose their lives. In the U.S., 13 service members were killed during Operation Epic Fury. Six died during a plane crash, while the rest were killed by drone attacks from Iranian troops. That caused losses and suffering in the families of the deceased. Beyond the losses of affected families, the citizens of the U.S. are also losing morale; people are not only questioning the war, but also losing faith in the government. 

Additionally, Iran suffered devastating losses in the war. About 3300-3600 deaths have occurred so far, including civilians. 

For example, the Lamerd Sports Hall incident took place on February 28, at a sports hall in Lamerd, Iran, killing 21 people. A U.S. Precision Strike Missile mistakenly hit the building that was supposed to be a military bombing site. 

There was also the Minab School attack during February 29, where a missile hit a girls’ school in Minab, killing 46 civilians and 120 schoolchildren. 

Other incidents include the attack on March 1 at Niloofar Square in Tehran, killing 20 people celebrating Ramadan. 

The attack on April 2, at the B1 bridge in Karaj, killed 13 people and injured 90 during their celebration of the Sizdah Be-dar holiday (Nature Day). This was significantly higher than the death toll of the U.S. 

About 3000 military personnel from Iran were killed, according to some reports. Although they are enemies of the U.S., they are people too. 

This war takes many bleak tolls on life for both sides. This war is a loss of valuable human life. 

Economic Impact

There has been a huge economic impact and global disruption during the war. There is a 20-30% rise in oil prices and about a 3.3-3.5% jump in the consumer price index. The consumer price index is an indicator that measures the average change over time in the prices paid by consumers. 

Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz in retaliation for naval blockades on Iranian ports issued by the U.S. This action from Iran does not allow oil to travel from oil-producing countries to the rest of the world. They use it as a strategy to disrupt the world economy; this causes the world to oppose the war and puts the U.S. in an unpopular position. The countries bordering the Strait of Hormuz produce about 21% of the world’s oil. Because there is much less oil, there is an imbalance of oil to other consumer products.

This war hurts economically and affects the world’s consumer goods.

U.S. Eliminating the Taliban and Hezbollah

The Middle East is known for its large Muslim extremist groups, such as the Taliban and Hezbollah. Historically, the Muslim extremists have been at war against the U.S. Furthermore, Iran is trying to build nuclear weapons. All of this activity is a threat to national security for Westerners.

Iran is funding these extremist groups because they are using them to protect the region from foreign attackers such as the U.S. This is to ensure that Iran has national security for its own country and region. Therefore, the U.S. attacking Iran is a threat to its national security, and we should stop attacking. We should instead seek peace with Iran and ourselves by resolving the war and other tensions between us.

Conclusion

The U.S. started a war to eliminate perceived threats from Iran. This war has so far created casualties and sparked controversies in the world. The war also created a lasting economic impact on the entire world. The U.S. wants to eliminate its historical enemies, while Iran is using them with a purpose for national security. Instead of continuously attacking Iran, we could resolve tensions using diplomacy.
